Waverley Mills is excited to have teamed up with Mary’s House, a not-for-profit organisation run by the North Sydney Women’s Benevolent Association (NSWBA), established to support women and children who need help because of domestic violence.
NSWBA recognises the urgent need in Australia for emergency accommodation for women and children trying to escape from domestic violence. NSWBA’s mission is to establish and operate a hostel to provide crisis accommodation for these women and their dependent children. The hostel is called Mary’s House and is in the Lower North Shore area, Sydney. Mary’s House is a non-for-profit organisation which receives no government funding. They need support to raise funds to create a functional, safe shelter, including necessities such as utilities, cleaning, food and kitchen supplies and employee wages.
Mary’s House has acquired the use of a property as a hostel and made alterations so that they can accommodate 19 women and children.
Waverley Mill’s Donation
Waverley is committed to giving back to the community locally and nationally, as demonstrated by our history of producing Welfare Blankets for St Vincent de Paul. Our most recent commitment is to Mary’s House. We named Mary’s Throw from our Recycled Range Throws after Mary’s House. A portion of the profits from each sale is earmarked for Mary’s House.
We plan to continue this model for our commitment to community outreach. Each year we will partner with a different charity. We will name a product for that year’s programme, and, as with Mary’s House, provide the charity with a a portion of the proceeds from the sale of that product. This approach will serve to raise the organisation’s profile and to make our customers aware of the positive consequences of purchasing the product.
