Product Care
How to care for alpaca and fine wool products
Waverley Mills products are often woven from delicate fibres and so we recommend you do not put your superfine wool or alpaca throw or wearable in a washing machine, even if your machine has a delicate or hand wash cycle.
Avoiding hot water and agitation will keep your delicate product looking its best.
From time to time, your delicate product may need refreshing. We suggest airing outside, rather than washing.
A steamy bathroom or a frosty night will also invigorate and refresh fibres. Hang your product in a damp environment and later flat to dry.
For any spills or mishaps, we recommend spot cleaning. Simply run some lukewarm (not hot) water in your laundry sink, add a small amount of an approved wool wash (follow the directions on the product of your choice) and simply immerse the section of your throw or wearable in the water and gently move the water with your hand until the area is cleaned. Do not rub or wring. Pat dry with towel and lay flat to dry in a warm area.
You may choose to dry clean and if so, we recommend discussing the care instructions with your chosen drycleaner before leaving your product.
If storing your product, check it regularly. Unfortunately, critters of all shapes and sizes love Waverley products. Fold your product for storage and position it inside your natural fibre blanket bag or a pillowcase. Lavender and Huon pine shavings enclosed inside a separate bag, stocking or sock and laid within your product are great for keeping your product smelling great and deterring unwanted visitors. Avoid plastic storage bags, particularly in humid environments.
How to care for picnic and travel rugs
Our 29-micron wool picnic rugs and travel rugs are designed to withstand a bit of rough and tumble however, we still recommend laundering your product with care.
Hot water is not recommended.
Airing outside or in a steamy bathroom is the easiest way of refreshing your product.
If stains or spills occur, choose a reputable wool wash, and follow the directions using sufficient warm water-no hotter than 40 degrees (imagine you are bathing a little one) and immerse your product fully. We recommend hand washing using your hands.
Gentle agitation is suggested but not rubbing or wringing.
Your wet product can be transferred to a washer for a light spin, then we suggest lay flat to dry in a sunny area-across an outdoor table or dining table.
