Merino wool is often considered the perfect all-rounder. It’s soft yet strong, offering breathable warmth that works in every season. Its moisture-wicking and odour-resistant properties make it ideal for both daily use and long-lasting comfort.
At Waverley Mills, we use Australian Merino wool, woven in Tasmania with over 150 years of craftsmanship. The result? Textiles that are luxuriously soft, durable, and made to last for generations.
Best for: Everyday comfort, durability, and sustainable living.
Alpaca vs Merino Wool
If you’ve ever felt Alpaca wool, you’ll know it’s incredibly smooth — almost silky. It’s lanolin-free, making it naturally hypoallergenic and gentle on sensitive skin. Alpaca fibres are hollow, which helps trap heat more efficiently than Merino, giving it an edge in pure warmth.
However, Merino’s elasticity and structure make it better for items that are used daily. It holds its shape, resists pilling, and is easier to care for — perfect for blankets, throws, and accessories you’ll reach for again and again.
Best for: Soft, gentle warmth with a silky texture.
